Pure Ice Vinyl Remix

You all know I like crackle polish, so it will come as no surprise that I grabbed the chance to try out a new twist on the trend from Pure Ice. It's called Vinyl Remix and consists of a white base packaged with a crackle polish and a cute record-shaped emery board. The set I got has Glam Rock crackle paired with the Platinum Magic Base Coat.

The magic refers to what happens when you apply the crackle on the white base: color appears in the cracks. In Glam Rock's case, the color that appears is pink. Here's one coat of Platinum Magic Base Coat followed with Glam Rock, no topcoat; you can see the crackle dries on the satin side.

But Karen, you may be saying to yourself, I could get that look with black crack over a pink polish. You could, I agree. But you couldn't get three colors on your nails with that combination, whereas with the Vinyl Remix, you can. I did my index and pinky the traditional way, but on my middle and ring fingers, I left some of the white base showing (and this time I added topcoat, which seemed to make the pink more vibrant).

I should have used more than one coat of the white base to even it out, but I didn't want to use up the magic too fast--if I used two coats of base to one of the crack, I'd run out of base before I ran out of crack, and that wouldn't do. Or would it? I did a few quick experiments on a nail wheel and found that the magic is in the crack, not the base.

Left to right above, that's Glam Rock on top of Pure Ice Free Spirit, Pure Ice In the Mood, and Wet 'n' Wild French White Creme. I can see having a lot of fun trying this over different things, or in combination with other Vinyl Remix colors. There are six sets of these being released, this pink, plus green, yellow, blue, orange, and purple. You can see peeks of all of them on Vinyl Remix page on the Pure Ice website. There's also a video there to show how they work. I haven't seen these in stores yet; they're supposed to be at Wal Mart this month, but I didn't spot them when I ventured into one last week. I checked the Bari Cosmetics site but no sign of them there at this point (they do have the regular crackle duos, so perhaps one day they'll get these, too). When I do see them, I will be scooping up at least a couple more colors because I want to experiment some more.
